Description: Most well-known plum. Dual purpose - well flavoured when ripe and very good for cooking & preserving. Pale red skin, yellowish green flesh, oval shape. Self-fertile, good pollinator. Less disease-resistant than some plum varieties. Reliable heavy cropper.
History: found in a Sussex garden and introduced in 1840. The main commercial variety in the UK and grown much in other countries aswell.
Also available on little less vigorous Pixy rootstock.
